At the weekend, a Russian bomb destroyed a Ukrainian high-rise building. According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian military has now responded by shelling a town near the border.
According to official information, eight people were injured in the shelling of the western Russian city of Belgorod on the border with Ukraine. “One of the injured is in a critical condition, the others have sustained moderate injuries,” wrote the governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on his Telegram channel. A private house and “more than 15 vehicles” were burned out by the shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces on Monday morning.
A total of four residential buildings were damaged – mainly window panes were broken, there were bullet holes in the facade and the roof. A gas line was also hit, Gladkov wrote.
Russia’s military remains silent
The Russian military, which usually claims responsibility for repelling Ukrainian attacks, did not provide any information about night or morning Ukrainian attacks in the Belgorod region. Belgorod is located near the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, where one person was killed and more than 40 people were injured in another Russian bombing raid just the day before.
Since the start of the war of aggression against Ukraine ordered by President Vladimir Putin, Russia has systematically been carrying out drone, missile and bomb attacks on the territory of its neighbouring country. Cities and other civilian objects are regularly hit. However, the Russian border regions are also increasingly complaining about shelling from the Ukrainian side. However, the casualties and damage are disproportionate to the destruction caused by Moscow on the other side.
