Gaza War: Report: Israel with new Gaza plan – Sinwar to leave

A new draft agreement to end the Gaza war provides for the Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip to be allowed to leave the area safely, according to a media report.

According to a media report, in view of the stalled Gaza negotiations, Israel has presented a new draft agreement with Hamas on a ceasefire and the release of the remaining hostages. The plan also provides for the Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip, Jihia al-Sinwar, to be allowed to leave the area unmolested, as the Israeli broadcaster Kan reported. In return, all those kidnapped from Israel who are still being held by Hamas will be released at once.

During the negotiations, the plan had been to release the hostages in several phases. After almost a year of hostage-taking, there is great concern in Israel for the lives of the people. Several of the abducted people have already been murdered by Hamas or were very likely killed in the course of the Israeli bombings.

According to the report, in addition to Sinwar, other high-ranking Hamas members are also to be assured of safe passage out of the Gaza Strip. Where exactly they are to flee to has not yet been announced. Many Hamas leaders are currently living in exile in the Gulf emirate of Qatar.

According to media reports, the plan also includes an end to the war and a new government in place of Hamas. The release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons is also part of the deal.

Israel submitted the proposal to the USA, which, along with Egypt and Qatar, is mediating between Israel and Hamas. There was initially no reaction from Hamas.

According to Israeli information, around 100 hostages are still being held by Hamas. It is unclear how many of them are still alive.
