For two days in a row, numerous technical devices exploded simultaneously in Lebanon. The death toll continues to rise.
In Lebanon, the death toll has risen to 37 following explosions of technical equipment allegedly coordinated by Israel. At a press conference in the capital Beirut, Health Minister Firas Abiad said that a total of around 3,000 people were injured on both days.
After the explosions of hundreds of so-called pagers in various places on Tuesday, numerous other technical devices, especially walkie-talkies, exploded just one day later. These devices are significantly larger than the pagers, said Abiad. “That explains why we had more serious injuries on Wednesday than the day before,” said the minister.
Previously, it was said that there were around 2,800 injured on Tuesday alone. The number was revised downwards by the Ministry of Health “after thorough investigations”. Some of the injured presented themselves at different hospitals before they could be treated. This led to duplicate reports. The number of injured on Tuesday currently stands at 2,323, said the minister. On Wednesday, there were 608 injured.
Among the dead and injured are numerous Hezbollah members, but also civilians. Lebanese security sources said that the majority of the victims belonged to the Shiite organization. The pro-Iranian Hezbollah reported 32 deaths in its own ranks since the explosions on Tuesday. However, it did not say whether these members were killed by the explosions of pagers and radio devices on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is currently unclear how many Hezbollah members were injured or killed by the explosions.
