Melania Trump hasn’t been seen or heard much publicly recently. Now she’s making a statement – but not about her husband’s election campaign.
While Donald Trump is currently fighting to be re-elected as President of the United States in early November, his wife Melania is making headlines with an issue that doesn’t seem at all political: her old nude photos.
But unlike in earlier times, she is now addressing her past herself. The wife of the 45th US President published a short presentation on X on Wednesday (local time). It shows a text that she is reading at the same time, accompanied by classical music.
“Why do I stand proudly behind my work as a nude model,” she asks, before launching into a longer answer. The more pressing question is why the media has picked apart her homage to the human body in a fashion photo shoot. “Are we no longer able to enjoy the beauty of the human body?”
Throughout human history, artists have worshipped the human body form, evoking deep emotion and admiration, she continues.
The short video includes photos of paintings from different periods of art history that show naked bodies as well as statues of naked men and women. The message of the post – depictions of naked bodies are something beautiful. Or maybe: only philistines twist this art into something bad.
Melania Trump will release her memoirs in October
The US broadcaster CNN suspects that the release of the video is related to Melania Trump’s memoirs. According to Amazon, the book entitled “Melania” will be released on October 22nd, just two weeks before the US presidential election on November 5th, in which her husband, Republican Donald Trump, will run against the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
According to CNN, a spokesperson for Melania Trump did not explain what the former and perhaps future First Lady meant when she said that the press had scrutinized her nude photos. Melania Trump’s public appearances are rare, which is why she attracts even more attention when she does speak out.
Her past as a model and the photos associated with it were already a topic in her husband’s US election campaign: in 2016, a US newspaper dug out nude photos of Melania. The pictures had been printed in a French men’s magazine in 1995.
There was mockery and criticism of Melania Trump’s latest post on Twitter – but also positive reactions. One user said, alluding to Donald Trump’s famous slogan: “Make America beautiful again”.
Another showed a famous photo of her, about 20 years old, where she is posing scantily clad in Trump’s private jet, with a photo of a statue cropped next to it and wrote: “Naked Melania is on the same level as Michelangelo’s David. In her estimation.”
