France’s new government is in place, but final adjustments are still needed. That’s why there’s a change of plan.
The government of France’s new Prime Minister Michel Barnier will not be presented today as expected, but tomorrow. “Final adjustments” are still being made, the government announced, as French media reported. Two weeks after his appointment, the conservative former EU Commissioner presented the composition of his future center-right government to President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday evening after difficult discussions.
In the early parliamentary elections just over two months ago, the left-wing alliance surprisingly came in first place – ahead of Macron’s centrist forces and the right-wing nationalists around Marine Le Pen, who had already been predicted to come in first. None of the camps received an absolute majority, and no party managed to put together a majority capable of governing with partners.
