Singer Jennifer Lopez, actresses Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, comedian Chris Rock and actors Bryan Cranston and Ben Stiller joined the online event “Unite for America” in the contested state of Michigan on Thursday, which was broadcast on various platforms.
Harris called on voters in the US to unite against the “powerful forces that are trying to divide us” in view of her Republican rival Donald Trump. The former prosecutor also addressed gun owners in the country and stressed that she herself owns a gun. “If someone breaks into my house, they will be shot,” Harris said with a laugh, adding: “I probably shouldn’t have said that (…), my staff will deal with it later.”
Trump appeared at an anti-Semitism event in Washington on Thursday. There he complained that Jewish voters in the US traditionally tend to vote for the Democratic Party and accused Harris of failing to defend Israel after the major Hamas attack in October. “Any Jewish person who votes for her should have their head examined,” Trump said.
