Ukrainian President Zelensky believes that an early end to the war with Russia is possible. A “victory plan” forms the basis, but success will depend primarily on Washington.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to implement a so-called “victory plan” this year to bring an end to the war with Russia. “The entire plan is based on quick decisions by our partners, which must come immediately between October and December. Then the plan will work,” said Zelensky at a joint press conference with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv.
Since most decisions on the implementation of the plan depend on US President Joe Biden, he will discuss the details with him first and not announce them beforehand, Zelensky said. He did not say which war outcome he would present as a victory.
The head of state merely repeated his intention to hold a second international peace summit in November. According to him, this could put an “end to the war”. Kiev is already acting according to a “Plan B”, since “Plan A” was to prevent the Russian invasion by supplying weapons to Ukraine and imposing sanctions against Russia.
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years. In June, a first so-called peace summit without Russian participation took place in Switzerland.
The war in Ukraine continues with the same intensity and has since expanded into Russian territory with the advance of Ukrainian troops into the Kursk border region. Kiev has long been pushing for the release of Western long-range missiles for use in the Russian hinterland.
