Russia is far superior to Ukraine, which it attacked, in terms of weapons production. But in one important area, Kiev not only wants to keep up, but promises to overtake Moscow.
Ukraine says it will significantly surpass Russia in drone production this year. “Our ability is several million drones, and we are able to produce them,” said Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov on Ukrainian television. Ukraine will not give Russia a chance to overtake it in this area, as it will already produce many times more than its opponent this year, Umyerov added.
In addition, Kiev will do everything to significantly increase missile production, said Umyerov. Just a few weeks ago, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the development of its own ballistic missile. Kiev wants to use this to break Moscow’s dominance in long-range weapons. Ukraine’s partners have so far not allowed the use of Western missiles against Russian territory.
Drones and missiles are of enormous importance for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for more than two and a half years. They are used to monitor the battlefield as well as to attack tactical and strategic targets in the hinterland. Moscow has also recognized the importance of drones. Just a few days ago, at a meeting of the State Armaments Commission, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the increase in production to date, which is expected to reach 1.4 million units this year. At the same time, he called for a further increase in production figures in the coming years.
