Energy shortage in Ukraine: Selenskyj seeks help for energy infrastructure in the USA

Ukrainian President Zelenskyj presents his “victory plan” in the USA. The trip also serves to promote investments in the energy sector, which has been damaged by Russian attacks.

During his visit to the USA, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to business representatives in favor of investments in the struggling energy sector. “The main focus was on preparing the Ukrainian energy system for winter,” the head of state wrote on social networks. The country fears that there will be power outages again this winter as a result of the war damage caused by Russia.

Zelenskyy promised special incentives. “This is a proposal from us. This is one of the points of our victory plan,” he said in a published video. In addition to representatives of energy, financial and insurance companies, the head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, also took part in the meeting in New York.

Ukraine has been resisting the Russian invasion with Western support since February 2022. Russia has since damaged the Ukrainian energy system with massive air strikes.
