ZDF shows AfD man getting to know the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance

ZDF accompanied the “Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance” (BSW) in its founding phase for a documentary series. Sabine Zimmermann, the BSW state coordinator for Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, also meets with interested parties for introductory discussions about possible collaboration in the new party.

A stocky man in a wig who calls himself Hans Kappelt turns up in a Berlin hotel. He says that he comes from Schwerin “with a base in Binz” on Rügen. He asks about network meetings and is also interested in the BSW founding party conference. When the ZDF reporter asks him: “Have you ever been politically active before?” he answers no. The same goes for the question of whether he has been in another party.

The alleged Hans Kappelt is actually called Olaf Kappelt and was the AfD’s top candidate in Bremen in the 2021 federal election. But Zimmermann only found out about this after the conversation: “He was recognized in a WhatsApp group,” she said in front of the ZDF camera. According to ZDF, someone there recognized from the profile photo that Hans Kappelt with the conspicuous gap in his teeth must be Olaf Kappelt from the AfD. “I found it questionable with the wig and name change,” said Zimmermann.

When asked about this, AfD party leader Alice Weidel distanced herself from the action. She had not heard anything about it and such methods were not “our style” at all. She was not at all interested in the inner workings (of the BSW, ed.) and neither was her party.

Zimmermann reports that she wanted to talk to Kappelt about it on the phone. But he first denied it and then claimed that it was obvious.

According to ZDF, Kappelt is still a member of the AfD. What he wanted to achieve with this action is probably only known to Kappelt himself.
