Even if he doesn’t have the hoped-for results, Zelensky is satisfied with his talks in the USA. Now he is preparing for an important meeting.
At the end of his visit to the USA, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed satisfaction with his talks. “Every discussion went as necessary,” he said in his evening video address, which was published on the X platform. The Ukrainian peace plan was presented in America. “Now our teams must work to implement every step and every decision.”
In Washington, Zelensky met, among others, US President Joe Biden and his deputy Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, to promote his country’s continued support in its defense against Russia. He also had a meeting with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in New York. “We have a common view that the war in Ukraine must be stopped,” Zelensky said after the conversation with Trump.
“It has to stop,” said Trump, referring to the war in Ukraine. The country is going through hell, the situation is terrible. If he wins the US election, the war will end quickly, Trump claimed once again. The ex-president has long said he could resolve the conflict within 24 hours – thanks in part to his contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Biden promised Zelensky a further package of aid worth billions and released 2.4 billion US dollars (around 2.15 billion euros) in military aid for Kiev. Biden said he had ensured that billions of dollars in aid already promised would not expire and would be used by the end of his term in office in January. According to the White House, this amounts to $5.5 billion.
All points that are important for Ukraine have been put on the table with the partners, said Zelensky. Contrary to his expectations, Zelensky did not receive permission to use long-range weapons from US aid packages against strategic facilities on Russian territory during his visit to the USA.
Ukraine is now preparing for the next high-level meeting in Ramstein on October 12, said Zelensky. At the US air force base in Rhineland-Palatinate, Ukraine’s supporters want to discuss further aid for Ukraine. “Together with our partners, we must ensure what brings peace closer.”

Russian units had tried to push through the Ukrainian defense lines near Kupyansk.
Heavy fighting again in eastern Ukraine
Ukrainian and Russian troops continued to engage in heavy fighting in eastern Ukraine. The focus of the fighting was once again the area around Pokrovsk, which Russian units have been attacking for months.

Russia has been waging a war of aggression against Ukraine for over two and a half years. The Russian military occupies almost a fifth of the neighboring country.
Several abducted children return home
Nine children and young people between the ages of 13 and 17 who were abducted by Russia during the war have now returned to their homeland, according to Ukrainian information. The Ukrainian human rights commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said on Telegram and The children and young people were separated from their parents or legal guardians by the occupiers and came from Kherson, Zaporizhia or Luhansk, Lubinets wrote. Accordingly, some of them were in an orphanage at the beginning of the war. The occupiers later took them to the port city of Skadowsk and to Russia.
According to earlier Ukrainian information, almost 20,000 children were said to have been brought to Russia or Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine by the beginning of the year. We always manage to bring some people back.
