The new state parliament president in Thuringia is called Thadäus König. The CDU politician was elected on Saturday in a secret ballot with 54 votes. The AfD’s strongest faction was MP Wiebke Muhsal, who lost by 32 votes. The first meeting on Thursday ended in a scandal because the AfD disrupted and delayed the parliamentary process.
On Friday, the Thuringian Constitutional Court obliged the AfD’s senior president Jürgen Treutler to allow a vote on the CDU’s proposal before the election of the state parliament president. He initially refused to do so at the first meeting on Thursday.
