Bad polls, weak economy, exhausted coalition: everything speaks against Olaf Scholz’s re-election. Only he has peace of mind.
Does he sometimes dream about this evening on September 28th, 2025? Imagine what it would be like if he actually made it in the federal election? What if he showed everyone again?
Olaf Scholz experienced how an SPD chancellor turned around an election that had long been thought lost. “Gerhard, Gerhard!” shouted the comrades in 2002 after Schröder had defeated Edmund Stoiber. In the first parliamentary group meeting after the election, the SPD MPs greeted each other with surprised faces. Many people have “already seen themselves in the morgue” politically, Scholz once said.
If on September 28th someone euphorically shouts “Olaf, Olaf!” shouted, Scholz would have surpassed Schröder. It would be a sensation, a political miracle.
