Because of Iranian missile attacks on Israel, several countries in the region have closed their airspace. “Israeli airspace is closed. Flights are being diverted to other destinations outside Israel,” said a spokesman for the Israel Airports Authority.
Jordan’s aviation authority also announced a “temporary closure of Jordanian airspace.” The Iraqi Ministry of Transport also announced a temporary halt to air traffic at all airports in the country.
Iran had previously started firing missiles at Israel. According to the military, rocket alarms were triggered throughout Israel, including Jerusalem. The army had recently called on people in Israel to prepare for a “large-scale” Iranian attack and to stay close to shelters. Journalists from the AFP news agency reported explosions that could be heard over Jerusalem.
The Israeli army is currently carrying out massive air strikes against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon and said it launched a “limited” ground operation in the neighboring country on Tuesday night. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Friday. Iran then threatened to retaliate.
