Silvio Berlusconi covered Italy with scandals for two decades. Even after his death, he continues to divide the country – now in the form of an airport farce.
He was a trickster, a shrewd businessman, a gifted catcher. He was boss of Italy’s largest private television station, the largest book publisher and AC Milan.
Silvio Berlusconi was also prime minister four times – with eternal judicial problems for tax fraud, bribery, perjury and promoting prostitution. In the Bunga Bunga trial about sex parties with minors, he was only acquitted because he was believed to have not known the age of the women.
Berlusconi was a man of power who divided society: some loved and admired him, others hated and despised him. That’s how it is today, a good year after the 86-year-old’s death, and that’s the problem.
