Employees in general practices who are unable to present proof of vaccination or recovery after the compulsory corona vaccination has come into force must expect a warning and, ultimately, their dismissal.
This emerges from an information sheet from the German Association of General Practitioners, which was the first to be reported on by the editorial network Germany (RND, Monday).
The so-called facility-related vaccination requirement stipulates that employees in facilities such as medical practices, clinics and nursing homes must prove by March 15 that they have been vaccinated or have recovered. This is intended to better protect patients and those in need of care from corona infection.
If employees refuse to provide proof, the health department can prohibit them from entering the doctor’s office or working in it, according to the information sheet on the website of the General Practitioners’ Association. “In these cases, the affected employees should generally not be entitled to remuneration.”

If the employee refuses to submit proof of vaccination or recovery or a certificate that vaccination is not indicated for medical reasons, termination can also be considered as a last resort, the association explains. “According to the principle of proportionality, however, a warning should be given here regularly.”
According to the information, the vaccination obligation applies to the medical staff in the practices, but also to all other employees such as cleaning staff, caretakers, transport or kitchen staff. Anyone who cannot submit proof by March 15th may not work or be employed. The practice owner must inform the health department immediately. Employees who, despite the request of the health department, do not provide proof within a reasonable period of time should expect a fine of up to 2500 euros.
However, the German General Practitioners Association does not assume that many employees will be affected by warnings and dismissals. “The overwhelming majority of general practitioners and practice staff had themselves vaccinated early on – both for self-protection and, of course, to protect the patients,” said Federal Chairman Ulrich Weigeldt to the RND. “Therefore, the number of those who will be affected by the new regulations on compulsory vaccination in practices will be rather small.”
