Böhmermann podcast: Did Maximilian Krah order 200 bottles of champagne?

In his podcast, the moderator cites a report that AfD man Krah ordered 200 bottles of champagne at the Oktoberfest. But he denies it. What’s going on there?

The satirist Jan Böhmermann promises in his podcast “Fest und Fluschig” that it is a “hot story from the Oktoberfest”. In the issue of October 6, 2024, Böhmermann quotes a letter from an anonymous listener. According to the report that Böhmermann reads in the podcast, the AfD MEP Maximilian Krah is said to have been a guest in the renowned Käfer tent at the Munich Oktoberfest on September 28th this year.

Krah celebrated there with friends and acquaintances and wanted to order a local round with a total of 200 bottles of champagne for all visitors to the festival tent. A friend of the anonymous Böhmermann listener recognized Krah and informed the operator of the tent, Michael Käfer, about the AfD politician’s presence. Käfer then reacted “very quickly” and canceled Krah’s order himself.

Did Maximilian Krah really order 200 bottles of champagne?

In addition, Böhmermann further quotes the anonymous report, Michael Käfer had “love and peace music” played over the speakers in the tent in response to Krah’s presence. Other party guests then booed Krah and gave him the finger.

“What a great story from Oktoberfest,” says Böhmermann in the podcast. A few hours later, ZDF political journalist Nicole Diekmann distributed this audio excerpt on the X platform.

But according to information from star and RTL the incident did not happen at all. Although Maximilian Krah was a guest in the Käfer tent, the incident described by Böhmermann is apparently not true.

Michael Käfer denies story from Böhmermann podcast

Upon request from star and RTL on Maximilian Krah, who is often called “Champagne Max” in party circles because of his penchant for fancy parties, his spokesman assures: “Maximilian Krah did not order any champagne. The story dished out by Jan Böhmermann and spread by Nicole Diekmann is untrue. “

Michael Käfer also denies the story. “We had a guest that evening who ordered several bottles of champagne. However, this had nothing to do with Mr. Krah. We only found out afterwards from other guests that he was in the tent,” wrote a Käfer spokeswoman when asked from star and RTL.

When asked, Jan Böhmermann has not yet answered whether he checked the story before publishing it on his podcast. According to his spokesman, AfD politician Maximilian Krah now wants to assert injunctive relief against Böhmermann.

Maximilian Krah would have had to dig deep into his pockets to order such a champagne. The cheapest bottle of champagne costs 147 euros for 0.75 liters in the Käfer tent. Krah would have had to spend almost 30,000 euros for 200 bottles without a volume discount. With a net salary of around 8,000 euros per month as an MEP, that would be a considerable party investment.
