The Islamic Republic has again imposed a nationwide flight ban. Four days ago there was a similar precaution – because of the attack on Israel. Is Tehran now fearing a counterattack?
According to the civil aviation authority, Iran is briefly imposing a nationwide flight ban in the country. “From 9 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. CEST) this evening until 6 a.m. (4:30 a.m. CEST), all flights in the country have been canceled,” said an authority spokesman, according to a report from the Isna news agency. The reason given was “operational restrictions”. No further details were given.
Last week, Iran closed its airspace for almost 48 hours following the rocket attacks on Israel. But even after the ban was lifted, there were almost no international flights to and from Tehran. Observers fear that the latest decision was made because of an impending Israeli counterattack.
