Corona pandemic: more than half a million corona vaccinations over the weekend

More than 72 percent of the population in Germany has now been fully vaccinated against the corona virus. According to the RKI, the proportion could even be slightly higher.

In Germany, more than half a million vaccinations against the corona virus were administered over the weekend. 129,000 vaccinations were carried out on Sunday and 408,000 on Saturday, according to data from the Robert Koch Institute on Monday.

At least 60.5 million people have received full basic protection against the coronavirus with the mostly necessary second vaccination. This corresponds to at least 72.7 percent of the population. Here, as with the rate of first-time vaccinations, Bremen is at the top in a comparison of the federal states. Saxony is at the bottom in each case.

39.2 million people (47.1 percent) received an additional booster vaccination. This is important for effective protection against the more contagious virus variant Omicron. When it comes to the proportion of people with booster vaccinations, Saarland is at the top, and Saxony is also at the end of the scale here.

So far, 62.4 million people (75.1 percent) have received at least one vaccine dose. The federal government is aiming for a quota of 80 percent of those who have been vaccinated for the first time by the end of January.

The RKI dashboard points out that the vaccination rates are to be understood as minimum vaccination rates, “since 100 percent coverage by the reporting system cannot be achieved”. The Robert Koch Institute assumes that the actual vaccination rate is up to five percentage points higher.
