Corona pandemic: Ministry: Shorter recovered status because of omicron

In many cases, even those who have recovered have free access to restaurants or cultural events. Since the weekend, however, this status has only been valid for three months instead of six.

The corona recovery status has been reduced to three months – the Federal Ministry of Health justifies this with the new virus variant Omicron.

This definition of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) was made from a scientific point of view, said a ministry spokesman on Monday in Berlin. The background is that due to the prevailing omicron variant, there is a much greater risk of becoming ill after this time or of being a carrier. The previous period of six months was valid as long as one had to deal with the prevailing Delta variant.

The new requirement ties in with an ordinance sealed by the Federal Council last Friday and has been in effect since Saturday. Accordingly, proof of recovery must meet criteria that the RKI publishes on a website. This includes: “The date of acceptance of the positive test must be at least 28 days ago”. And: “The date of acceptance of the positive test must not be more than 90 days ago.” The RKI explains: “These specifications are checked regularly and can change according to the state of the art.”

The ordinance had previously stated as a general rule that the test was “at least 28 days and a maximum of six months ago”.
