The Russian government submitted amendments to the State Duma on the indexation of pensions in Russia from January 1, 2022 by 8.6%. This is stated in a document published on January 17 in the electronic database of the lower house of parliament.
The Cabinet of Ministers introduced the norm on indexation by an amendment to the government bill already adopted in the first reading.
On January 14, the Government Commission on Legislative Activities approved a package of amendments on the indexation of pensions in 2022 by 8.6%. After indexation, the average pension will be 18,984 rubles, said Alexander Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma.
Insurance old-age pensions have increased by 5.9% since January 1, 2022. In the forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development, which was taken as the basis for the budget for 2022 and the planning period of 2023–2024, inflation in 2021 was expected at 5.8%. However, actual inflation was 8.4%.
On January 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed indexing pensions above the inflation rate by 8.6%. At a meeting with members of the government, the head of state noted that the decisions taken earlier would not be able to cover the expenses of pensioners due to inflation.
