Middle East conflict: Lebanese government: 60 dead in Israeli attacks

Dozens of people die again in Israeli air strikes in Lebanon. It is unclear how many of these are Hezbollah members and how many are civilians. Many thousands of people are on the run.

According to the Health Ministry in Beirut, 60 people have died in Israeli air strikes in Lebanon in the past 24 hours. Another 168 people were injured, the statement said. It remained unclear how many of them were members of the Shiite militia Hezbollah, which is allied with Iran, and how many were civilians. The information could not be independently verified.

The number of air strikes in the past 24 hours was 57. They are said to have primarily targeted targets in the south of the country, in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut and the Bekaa Valley in the east of the country.

Overall, the death toll in Lebanon since the start of the Gaza war has risen to around 2,230, according to government figures. Almost 10,400 people were injured. Around 187,000 people are said to have become refugees in their own country. More than 430,000 people fled to neighboring Syria, of which more than three quarters are said to be Syrian nationals.
