Both reports rely on internal sources from government circles. Instead of the state visit with an official banquet and other honorary appointments, a significantly scaled-down working visit is now planned, it is said.
There will be appointments that day with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Der Spiegel describes the visit as a kind of farewell visit by the outgoing US President. The originally planned Ramstein meeting of Western heads of state and government to support Ukraine should not be rescheduled in view of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent European tour.
