Liana Romero’s mother spied first for the Germans and then for the British during World War II. She met James Bond author Ian Fleming – who was inspired by her.
A house with a sea view on a hill in southern Spain. Every corner is filled with memories: faded black and white photos on the walls, an old boat bell adorns the entrance. Liana Romero seems delicate but tough. The 91-year-old doesn’t need any help to climb down the steps into the garden, past the wind chimes she has hung in the lavender bushes. Romero sits down on a garden chair with floral cushions and lights a cigarette. She started when she was 85, she says. From then on it doesn’t matter. A few years ago, Romero returned to southern Spain, the region where she grew up as a child among secret agents. Above all, her mother, code name Queen of Hearts.
