The Ukrainian president presented his strategy for ending the war in many capitals. Now it’s Kyiv’s turn. One point: The Russians should feel that their country is at war.
Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia, is demanding an immediate invitation to NATO to end the war. “This plan depends on the partners. I underline: on the partners,” said President Volodymyr Zelensky in parliament in Kiev, where he presented his so-called victory plan for MPs and the military leadership.
It is also important to take the fighting to Russian territory. The population there should understand what war is and direct their hatred against the Kremlin.
The restrictions on the use of Western weapons against targets in the Russian rear should be lifted, said Zelensky. Neighboring countries should shoot down Russian drones over Ukraine from their territory. The Ukrainian president proposed, among other things, stationing a large but non-nuclear arsenal of weapons in his country to deter Russia from further aggression.
Zelensky had previously presented the strategy to allies in Washington as well as in London, Paris, Rome and Berlin, but not all of the points were publicly known.
