One of the masterminds of the October 7, 2023 massacre is no longer alive. Israel’s military kills Hamas leader Sinwar in the Gaza Strip. Before that, a drone filmed him while he was still alive.
Israel’s armed forces have released a video purporting to show the final moments of Jihia al-Sinwar’s life following the killing of the leader of the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In the footage filmed by a drone, a hooded man covered in dust can be seen sitting on an armchair in a bombed-out building. As the drone approaches, he throws a stick at the remote-controlled aircraft. The Israeli military identified the man in the video as Sinwar.
A short time later, according to the Israeli armed forces, Sinwar was killed in the town of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip – although the military apparently did not know at the time that the Hamas chief had been hunted down after a months-long search.
Israel: DNA comparison confirms Sinwar’s death
After soldiers located him and two other gunmen, a tank fired a grenade into the building, The Times of Israel reported. It was only later that the soldiers were said to have noticed the resemblance of one of the dead to the Hamas leader. Israeli media published photos of a body lying in ruins and showing, among other things, serious head injuries. According to Israeli sources, Sinwar’s identity was established using dental samples and fingerprints. Military spokesman Daniel Hagari finally confirmed the death of the Hamas leader on Thursday evening.
