Russian war of aggression: South Korea: North Korea sends thousands of soldiers to Ukraine

The South Korean secret service NIS assumes that North Korea is sending 12,000 soldiers to support Putin’s war of aggression. There should also be special units among them.

According to South Korea’s intelligence service, North Korea has decided to send large numbers of troops to support Russia against Ukraine. As the official Yonhap news agency reported, according to information from the NIS (National Intelligence Service), a total of 12,000 soldiers, including special forces, will be deployed. The deployment of the troops has already begun.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol also told an emergency meeting with intelligence, military and security officials that North Korea was believed to have sent troops to Russia. It recognizes that “the current situation, in which the rapprochement between Russia and North Korea has gone beyond the delivery of military supplies to the actual deployment of troops, represents a serious security threat not only to our country but also to the international community.” said a statement from the President’s Office.

Kyiv speaks of around 11,000 North Korean soldiers

The government in Kiev recently spoke of soldiers from North Korea in the ranks of the Russian occupation troops. The head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, said in an interview that 11,000 North Korean infantrymen are currently being trained in eastern Russia. He expects that they will be ready for action against Ukraine from November 1st.

The US military think tank ISW (Institute for the Study of War) also recently reported that several thousand North Korean soldiers had arrived in Russia and were being prepared for deployment in Ukraine.

Isolated North Korea supports Russia with arms deliveries

Pyongyang is already massively supporting the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine with weapons and ammunition. According to a report by the South Korean secret service, the country, which is largely isolated internationally, primarily supplies artillery shells and short-range missiles.

In recent months, North Korea has significantly intensified its military cooperation with Russia. It was only in June that Moscow and Pyongyang signed a treaty on comprehensive strategic cooperation, which also includes mutual assistance in the event of an attack by a third country.
