Good old Joe is here. One last time, at least as US President, maybe forever. The 81-year-old landed in Berlin on his Air Force One late on Friday evening and disembarked in style – with a red carpet, of course.

They had actually been expecting the outgoing president in the capital last week – but Hurricane “Milton” put a stop to his travel plans. But Biden didn’t want to miss the opportunity to say goodbye entirely – especially since it was also the first bilateral visit for the Democrat to Germany.

However, there isn’t much time left. Because Biden only has around 24 hours, his schedule is correspondingly tight. In addition to a feel-good appointment where he received the Federal Republic’s highest award from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, he also consulted with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his French and British counterparts, Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer. As expected, the focus will primarily be on the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.
