The Wagenknecht party in Thuringia has not yet given a clear yes to starting coalition negotiations with the CDU and SPD. The party executive committee still needs clarification on one question.
The Thuringian board of the Wagenknecht party sets a condition before starting coalition negotiations with the CDU and SPD. The fact that the paper on the exploratory results left out the topic of war and peace and the BSW demand for more diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine was unacceptable, said state and parliamentary group leader Katja Wolf after a board meeting in Erfurt. Without clarity on the peace issue, there will be no entry into coalition negotiations. That is the sticking point “despite all the joy about what has been achieved in the exploratory paper”, which bears the signature of the BSW in important points such as internal security and social justice.
“We will ask the CDU and SPD to renegotiate as quickly as possible,” said Wolf. The BSW will present a wording proposal for a passage in the preamble of a possible coalition agreement, announced the co-state chairman Steffen Schütz. It’s about more diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine and a no to stationing US medium-range missiles in Germany.
The CDU and SPD still want to decide
Representatives of the CDU, BSW and SPD presented the exploratory paper on Friday. The CDU executive board also meets parallel to the BSW to decide whether to start coalition negotiations. The SPD board wants to deal with the question on Saturday.
BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht has repeatedly insisted that possible new coalition governments in Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg, if BSW is involved, would commit to more diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine and against US stationing of weapons in Germany.
