At the Federal Congress of the Green Youth in Leipzig, the main focus is on reorganizing personnel. But the party youth also want to set accents in terms of content.

The Green Youth is calling for a legal minimum wage for young people too. At her federal congress in Leipzig, she voted for a motion that calls for the abolition of Section 22 of the Minimum Wage Act. Among other things, this states that the statutory minimum wage does not apply to people under 18 who have not completed vocational training.

Exceptions to the minimum wage are also provided for, for example, for compulsory internships as part of training or studies, as well as for other internships that run parallel to studies or training and do not last longer than three months. From the perspective of the Green Youth, young people are discriminated against and interns are “abused as cheap labor”.

The statutory minimum wage determines the minimum wage that must not be fallen below in Germany. Since the beginning of the year that has been 12.41 euros gross per hour.
