Gregor Gysi wants to secure the Left’s return to the Bundestag with three direct mandates. Thuringia’s outgoing Prime Minister Ramelow is part of the plan – and has sympathy for the idea.
Thuringia’s outgoing Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left) does not rule out running for the Bundestag. The announcement by his party colleague Gregor Gysi that several veteran left-wing politicians could apply for direct mandates for the Bundestag was surprising, but it gave food for thought, Ramelow told rbb Inforadio. What Gysi calls “Aktion Silberlocke” is an exciting idea.
Last weekend at the federal party conference in Halle (Saale), Gysi brought up the candidacy of himself and Dietmar Bartsch and Ramelow for a Bundestag mandate.
After the state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg, in which the Left had suffered major losses, Ramelow spoke of a “shock situation” that had pretty much paralyzed the Left. It needs sorting and new accents.
But first he will fulfill all the tasks that a state government has to fulfill, said Ramelow. Afterwards he is looking forward to dinner with his party colleagues Gysi and Bartsch, where everything else will be discussed.
Nationwide, the Left is only at three to four percent in surveys. The declared goal is to exceed the five percent hurdle and thus return to the Bundestag with parliamentary group strength. This goal can also be achieved with three direct mandates.
