Could Armin Laschet really have said that? With the “Lasch-O-mat” anyone can have a fictional Laschet quote displayed on the Internet – this does not put the CDU candidate for chancellor in a good light.
The election campaign is in full swing, and all three candidates for the Chancellery – Armin Laschet from the CDU, Olaf Scholz from the SPD and the Green Annalena Baerbock – each have to take a lot of malice from the other side. After Baerbock had received a lot of criticism for a while and lost in the polls, Laschet did not cut a good figure during the flood disaster.
And as if the CDU candidate for Chancellor did not have enough to struggle with bad press, there is now another tool on the Internet that makes fun of him: the “Lasch-O-mat”, which parodies Laschet’s language. With a click of the mouse, users can have a fictitious quote from the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia on a freely selectable topic. The result is “random quotes” which, in this form, “could also come from Armin Laschet”, as it says on the website. Mostly they are phrases with very little informative value.
“Lasch-O-mat” supposedly has no political background
In the first few days, the tool was so popular in social networks that the page was no longer accessible due to the high number of hits. The offer was “overrun”, said Michael Ziegler, managing director of the Mainz online marketing company Visualtech, which is behind the “Lasch-O-mat”, to “t-online.de”. The creators apparently did not expect so many users.
“We are currently trying to make it more stable. Sure, we build such websites regularly, but otherwise for a rather manageable number of customers – we are currently learning a lot,” said Ziegler. He also stressed that the action had no political background. A tweet gave him the idea, which he and his team implemented at short notice. Nevertheless, his online tool should ensure that users get the impression that Laschet is not very competent and mostly uses empty phrases.
