Finance Minister Lindner learns about the new initiative of his cabinet colleague Habeck in the USA. And warns: You can’t just spend as much money as you want.
Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) questions the feasibility of the state investment and infrastructure fund proposed by Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens). “The Federal Minister of Economics did not simply introduce a proposal into the debate, Robert Habeck is calling for a fundamentally different economic policy for Germany,” said Lindner during a visit to New York. “That’s quite a hammer.”
He is now having his ministry examine what part of the proposal can be theoretically implemented – only then can the matter be discussed. Among other things, European state aid law and fiscal rules must be observed. “We simply can’t just spend as much money as some people want.” At the same time, Lindner emphasized: “In any case, it is clear that it is precisely this uncertainty about the further framework conditions of the German economy that has itself become part of our country’s problems.”
Habeck had proposed a debt-financed fund for investments and infrastructure to combat the German economy’s weak growth.
