Justice: Indictment against ex-RAF terrorist Klette by the end of November

The investigation against former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette is expected to be completed by the end of November. The trial is supposed to take place in Verden, Lower Saxony – but there is a problem there.

The Verden public prosecutor’s office plans to complete its investigation against former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette by the end of November and file charges. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice. NDR first reported on it.

According to the ministry, the trial is planned to take place in Verden. However, exactly where is unclear. No final solution has yet been found, said the spokeswoman. Finding a suitable location is difficult because a large number of co-plaintiffs, witnesses and experts are expected.

Justice Minister Kathrin Wahlmann (SPD) told NDR: “But you can expect that you will need more space than in a normal procedure and the regional court is preparing for this if charges are brought there.”

Klette was arrested in Berlin in February

Since 2015, the Verden public prosecutor’s office has been investigating Klette and her former RAF comrades Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub in several cases for attempted murder and attempted and completed aggravated robbery. Klette was arrested at the end of February in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where she had been living under an assumed name.

Since then, Klette has been in custody in Vechta, Lower Saxony. Klette belonged to the so-called third generation of the RAF, which carried out numerous attacks and killed people until the early 1990s.
