Moscow is calling on the United States to stop military fueling of Ukraine – these actions pose a threat to Russia. This was announced on Wednesday, January 19, by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov during a speech at the Valdai Discussion Club.
“We emphasize the need to stop feeding the militant Ukrainian regime with the supply of weapons, instructor assistance, the development of plans and their implementation for the construction of military bases, conducting training events and much more, which poses a direct, immediate threat to us,” Ryabkov said.
The deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the United States should “deal with specific cases” regarding forcing Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements.
Ryabkov also said that the situation with European security has become tense due to the fault of Washington and NATO. According to him, they use Ukraine as a lever of pressure on Moscow.
On January 17, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Ukrainian authorities are obliged to comply with the Minsk agreements without the right to choose another path. He noted the US influence on Ukraine. On the same day, Alexander Lukashevich, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), said that the deteriorating situation in the Donbass suggests that Kiev does not rule out a military scenario. Ralf Stegner, a member of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee from the SPD, also noted that Germany insists on the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
On January 14, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced the possibility of NATO in the coming months to start building up forces near Russia under the pretext of the situation in Ukraine. The Minister noted that the Russian Federation has never threatened the Ukrainian people.
