Trouble on the way to the blackberry coalition: The BSW votes in the state parliament for an AfD motion to set up a Corona investigation committee – to the displeasure of the SPD.
After the BSW parliamentary group approved a request from the AfD for a Corona investigation committee in the Saxon state parliament, the exploratory talks between the CDU, BSW and SPD have been interrupted for the time being. “Today’s solidarity between the AfD and BSW in voting on a Corona investigative committee is a heavy burden on the ongoing exploratory talks,” said the Saxon SPD chairmen Kathrin Michel and Henning Homann. Your party will therefore suspend negotiations in the working groups until there is clarification from the leaders.
Negotiations require trust, according to Michel and Homann. The BSW parliamentary group gave the impression in the state parliament that it also supported the content of the AfD’s application and thus agreed to a tribunal. “This is unacceptable for us.” The “substantial support of a populist proposal from a firmly right-wing extremist party” is fatal.
The state parliament had previously decided to set up a committee of inquiry into the corona pandemic. The AfD parliamentary group’s motion received sufficient approval in the special session, and members of the BSW also voted for the motion. Even without the BSW’s votes, the committee of inquiry would have been formed, as the AfD is represented by 40 members in the state parliament; 24 votes were necessary.
Zimmermann (BSW) calls for a return to the negotiating table
“We were just about to meet with the representatives of the CDU and SPD in the working group on health and social affairs to set the right course for Saxony’s health system, when the SPD suddenly declared the exploratory talks to be interrupted,” said BSW chairwoman Sabine Zimmermann. She accused the SPD of harming the country and called on the Social Democrats to return to the negotiating table “as quickly as possible”. The CDU has taken note of the SPD’s decision, a party spokesman said.
On Tuesday, the three parties began exploratory talks for a joint coalition. Zimmermann said on Thursday that she did not assume that her group’s voting behavior would have an impact on the exploratory talks. The two possible coalition partners initially assessed it similarly.
