Wagenknecht does not rule out running for chancellor

Should the BSW nominate a candidate for chancellor? Party founder Wagenknecht leaves this open. But surveys give no reason for this.
BSW chairwoman Sahra Wagenknecht is keeping a candidate for chancellor open for her party. “There is a certain amount of pressure when even the Greens choose a candidate for chancellor with currently ten percent,” Wagenknecht told the magazine “Stern”. “We’ll see where we stand as BSW next year and then we’ll decide,” she added.
At the same time, Wagenknecht emphasized: “Actually, only parties should nominate candidates for chancellor who have a certain prospect of actually leading the next federal government.” Nationwide surveys see the new party in the single-digit range between seven and nine percent.
The party leader cannot imagine working with the CDU under Friedrich Merz after the federal election. “A coalition with people like Friedrich Merz, who just want to declare war on the nuclear power Russia, is out of the question.” Merz stands “for black rock capitalism” and less for the protection of medium-sized businesses and fair competition. Wagenknecht was alluding to Merz’s previous work at the US asset manager.
