In the new month, the hurdles for changing one’s name and gender will decrease. And you can also no longer have to go to the citizens’ office.

The Self-Determination Act comes into force in November, which is particularly a relief for transgender, intersex and non-binary people. What else will change in the coming month – an overview.

From November, obtaining ID documents will be easier. So-called sovereign documents can be sent by post for a fee upon request. This eliminates the need to go to the office to pick up an ID card.

Gender entry and first name can be changed at registry offices from November 1st. A declaration is then sufficient, without reports, medical certificates or judicial orders. The relief primarily affects transgender, intersex and non-binary people. Registration requires a three-month period – applications for the change have been possible since August.

New President of the Federal Council

The Federal Council presidency changes on November 1st. Saarland Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) replaces Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD).

Drones with thermal imaging cameras to protect fawns and other animals will be permanently permitted in fields from November 20th. The background is that animals seek protection in tall grass and are repeatedly injured or killed by mowing machines. In principle, a minimum distance of 150 meters from residential or commercial areas applies to camera drones. However, the Federal Ministry of Transport specified areas where only 10 meters are permitted.

More money for many bank employees

The 60,000 or so employees of public banks will receive more money from November 1st. According to the Verdi union, salaries should increase by a total of 11.5 percent in three stages. The new collective agreement will apply nationwide to employees of 63 institutes.

Economic identification number comes

From November, economically active people – both individuals and companies – will receive a business identification number. The aim is to simplify communication between companies and authorities. The Federal Central Tax Office automatically assigns the number. If you don’t have a number by the end of November, you don’t have to worry, as providing your number is not yet mandatory. According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the award is expected to run until 2026.
