The government in Tehran blames Djamshid Sharmahd for an attack. And criticizes Baerbock.
Iran’s government defends the execution of the German-Iranian Djamshid Sharmahd. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi wrote on the X platform that he was responsible for a terrorist attack that left 14 dead. “A German passport does not offer anyone impunity, let alone a terrorist criminal.”
“Your government is complicit in the ongoing Israeli genocide,” he wrote to Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. “Look around you. Even your own countrymen scoff at your arrogant human rights claims,” he wrote.
The Iranian judiciary announced Sharmahd’s execution on Monday evening. He was sentenced to death in spring 2023 in a controversial trial following terrorism allegations. Relatives had vehemently rejected the allegations.
