“I’m afraid there will be violence”

Conservative thinker Robert Kagan paints a bleak scenario for the USA after Donald Trump’s victory – and even more so in the event of his defeat.
Mr Kagan, Donald Trump is a fascist – that’s what his former chief of staff and also his former chief of staff say. Still, about half the country could vote for him. How is that possible?
A significant core of Trump supporters not only don’t care about liberal democracy – they would actually like to see it abolished. They want a nation that is defined ethno-religiously: white and Christian. This is a development we see throughout American history. The more we protected the rights of minorities, the more radical whites believed it was at their expense.
