The temporary US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is known as an opponent of vaccination. Donald Trump wants him to have a say in health policy in the future.
If elected US President, Donald Trump wants to entrust the well-known anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with a role in health policy. He would commission “the best minds,” including Kennedy, to improve children’s health, Trump said during a campaign appearance in the particularly hotly contested state of Pennsylvania. The aim is to halve the number of cancer, depression and suicides among children within four years. Trump did not say how this would be achieved – nor did he say exactly what position was intended for Kennedy.
According to a media report, Kennedy had previously announced to his supporters that Trump had promised him “control” of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture. According to CNN, Kennedy said he wanted to make Americans healthier, among other things, by moving away from the widespread use of pesticides in agriculture.
Kennedy initially ran in the presidential election as an independent candidate – but then withdrew his already hopeless candidacy and switched to the Trump camp, which he could otherwise have cost valuable votes. He comes from the prominent Kennedy family and was a Democrat for decades – but then increasingly distanced himself from the party. The declared vaccination opponent is often criticized not only by Democrats, but also by members of his family for spreading conspiracy theories and contacts with right-wing extremist politicians.
