The new law on self-determined gender entry officially comes into force on November 1st. YouGov asked what people think about this.

According to a survey, almost half of the population supports the self-determination law that comes into force on Friday. The law makes it easier for people to have their gender and first name changed. According to the results of the YouGov survey, 47 percent of respondents support the law – 37 percent oppose it based on what they know about it.

The opinion research institute YouGov surveyed more than 2,000 adult people online from October 25th to 27th. The response among women was greater at 51 percent, as the institute announced. Among men, 43 percent were in favor of the law.

In addition, the survey showed that younger people are more likely to support the self-determination law than older people. It was 56 percent of 18 to 24 year olds and 63 percent of 25 to 34 year olds. The lowest response was from the group of 45 to 54 year olds at 39 percent.

Overall, according to the survey, 25 percent of those surveyed said they knew pretty well what the law was about, 47 percent roughly knew and 28 percent didn’t really know. At 34 percent, 25 to 34 year olds were the most likely to say they knew exactly what was going on. In the group aged 55 and over, only 21 percent were sure.
