There is no end in sight to the war between Israel and Hezbollah. Because of the victims and hundreds of thousands of displaced people, the UN speaks of an even worse situation than in the 2006 war.
According to the United Nations, the humanitarian situation in Lebanon is now even worse than during the previous war in 2006. “The situation has escalated further in recent days,” said the UN emergency relief office Ocha.
“The damage to the population has worsened due to the destruction of critical infrastructure, including the healthcare system,” it said. Many hospitals are overwhelmed by the high number of victims and are urgently asking for blood donations.
The current war between Israel and Hezbollah began on October 8th last year with rocket attacks by the Lebanese militia in support of the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which had triggered the Gaza war with the terrorist attack on Israel the day before.
Since then, according to official figures, almost 3,000 people have been killed and 13,300 others injured in Lebanon. The Ministry of Health does not differentiate between civilians and members of Hezbollah in its list.
Among the dead are around 180 minors and 600 women. In the latest situation report, Ocha highlighted that more than 11,000 pregnant women were affected by the war, including 1,300 shortly before giving birth. They have to give birth to children in a “health system on the verge of collapse.”
