Today, officials have a different role – and are under more scrutiny. “The vice presidency is the best springboard there is in US politics,” Joel Goldstein told the star once. Goldstein is a law professor at Saint Louis University and has written several books about vice presidents.

Vice presidents are important advisors to their presidents. You preside over the Senate and, like Biden’s deputy Kamala Harris at the beginning, can decide in the event of a tie. They also play an important role in the presidential elections. It was Mike Pence who confirmed the election results, even though Donald Trump tried to stop him. Trump never forgave him for that. For his third candidacy, he therefore chose another running mate on the ticket, US Senator JD Vance.
