The dismissal of Israeli Defense Minister Galant by Prime Minister Netanyahu in the middle of the war outraged many Israelis. Protesters are demanding his reinstatement.
Several thousand people demonstrated in Jerusalem for the second evening in a row against the dismissal of Israeli Defense Minister Joav Galant. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired his opponent on Tuesday evening because the relationship of trust had broken down.
The demonstrators called on Netanyahu to reverse the dismissal, Israeli media consistently reported. They also called for a compromise with Hamas in the Gaza Strip in order to free the approximately 100 Israeli hostages and the abandonment of planned exemptions from compulsory military service for ultra-Orthodox men.
In addition, there must finally be a commission of inquiry into the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023 in Israel with 1,200 dead and initially 250 abducted people, it said. Israel’s army and secret services were completely taken by surprise by the attack. Galant had also formulated these demands and was therefore out of favor with Netanyahu, among other things.
