There is radio silence between US President Biden and Kremlin chief Putin because of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. But if the new President-elect Trump called, Moscow would pick up the phone.
The Kremlin says it is open to a phone call between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump. “That is not ruled out,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Trump said he wanted to call Putin before his inauguration in January, Peskov said. He and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would not take the first step because Washington, not Moscow, had broken off relations.
There is radio silence between Putin and US President Joe Biden because of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Diplomatic relations are at their lowest point. There were recent contacts between Moscow and Washington through intermediaries, for example in the exchange of prisoners. The military leadership of both countries also made sporadic telephone calls recently.
Trump claimed during the campaign that he could end the war in Ukraine quickly, possibly even before his inauguration on January 20th. Critics have long accused the 78-year-old Republican of being too close to Russia and Putin in particular.
