Arizona State was hotly contested in the race for the White House. Now Donald Trump is prevailing there too – and making Kamala Harris’ defeat even more clear.
Donald Trump also won in Arizona and thus in all seven contested states in the US presidential election. The AP news agency reported this based on voter surveys and initial vote counts.
Trump has already emerged as the winner of the presidential election because he secured the necessary number of at least 270 voters.
Arizona gives him eleven more voters. This means that the Republican now has a total of 312 electoral votes – and his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris has 226.
The state on the southern border of the USA east of California was long considered a safe bastion for the Republicans. Arizona is now one of the seven so-called swing states, which in past elections have sometimes voted for one party and sometimes for the other.
In 2016, Trump was able to secure Arizona’s electorate in the race against Democrat Hillary Clinton. In 2020, however, he was defeated there, and the electors went to Democrat Joe Biden by a razor-thin margin.
