Activists: Seven dead after Israeli attack in Syria

The Israeli military repeatedly attacks Syria in order to curb the influence of pro-Iranian militias. According to Syrian sources, several people will be killed in another attack.

The death toll from an Israeli airstrike in Syria has risen to seven, according to activists. There were also at least 14 injured, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. There are said to have been women and children among them.

An apartment in a building was hit in the attack on the town of Saida Zainab, south of the capital Damascus. Members of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah and a Lebanese family are said to have lived in the building, the UK-based Observatory said. The activists had previously reported that two Hezbollah sites had been hit.

The Syrian state news agency Sana confirmed the attack. According to initial information, a residential building was hit. The Israeli military did not initially comment.

Israel’s air force repeatedly bombs targets in neighboring Syria in an attempt to prevent Iran and its allied militias from expanding their military influence in the country. Since the start of the Gaza war last year, the Israeli military has increased attacks.
