Ex-Finance Senator is said to have granted credit to right-wing extremists

Peter Kurth used to be the CDU finance senator in Berlin. Now he is said to have helped buy a house from suspected right-wing extremists.

According to “Spiegel”, Berlin’s former CDU finance senator Peter Kurth is said to have financed a real estate deal by suspected members of the right-wing extremist “Saxon Separatists”. When asked by the dpa, Kurth himself explained that the group was never mentioned in the loan. Last week, the Federal Prosecutor General had eight suspected right-wing terrorists arrested who are said to have belonged to the group, including a local AfD politician who suffered an injury when the police attacked him.

“I gave a loan to an acquaintance of mine and two of his colleagues,” Kurth replied to dpa’s question as to whether he had invested 100,000 euros in a corresponding real estate deal. “There was never any mention of this group, I don’t know them and I reject them. But they’re probably in there. What rubbish.”

The object of the suspected right-wing terrorist group “Saxon Separatists” was searched by the police during the raid last week. Searches also took place in Poland as part of the investigation.

According to information from “Spiegel”, Kurth is said to have made it possible for the group to purchase the house with the loan. After the arrest of the eight men, seven of them are now in custody. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office accuses them of membership in a terrorist organization.

Several of those arrested are also active in the AfD

According to security sources, one of the men, also a member of the AfD, was said to have been holding a long gun in his hand when he was arrested last week, which is why the police fired two warning shots. According to the German Press Agency’s knowledge, the arrested person is a hunter and has a firearms permit.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office had a total of around 20 properties searched. It is unclear when the last of the eight men – the alleged ringleader – will be brought before the investigating judge. He was arrested in Poland and is being held there pending his extradition.
