Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, January 21, at an operational meeting with members of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, proposed discussing additional measures to improve fire safety.
“Today we have a question about additional measures to improve fire safety and reduce the risks of emergencies during the flood period. Everything needs to be done in a timely manner, and today we will discuss the issues that are proposed as the main ones on the agenda,” the head of state emphasized.
Earlier, on January 13, Izvestia was informed by the Russian Emergencies Ministry that almost 6,000 fires were registered throughout Russia during the New Year and Christmas holidays, as a result of which 370 people died and more than 260 people were injured. The department added that almost 70% of the total number of fires occurs due to careless handling of fire.
On March 9, 2021, Putin signed a law introducing administrative liability for repeated violations of fire safety requirements. In this case, we are talking about a violation that occurred at the object of protection, categorized as extremely high, high or significant risk.
